On April 20th, the George campus World Culture/Study Abroad Club had its last meeting. The meeting was a special one because there were two guests who shared their experience from the study abroad course to Vietnam: Jeanette Bellinger and Mary Moore.
They shared stories that were funny, sad, rewarding, and emotional in several ways. Most importantly, they conveyed how great it was to be a part of this service-learning opportunity where they did many things to help the local people, including working at an orphanage and even building a house for a woman.
However, the one thing that stood out more to Mary, Jeanette, and their fellow travelers was when they were able to gather together money to send a woman’s four children to school for a cost of 1,671,675.00 Vietnamese dong (or, $75). The woman was extremely grateful for such generosity from the American student visitors. When asked if they would do it again, both enthusiastically said yes. They also agreed that more students should experience service-learning study abroad courses. Everyone was very humbled and enriched by everything they experienced, and you can see the pictures from the wonderful service-learning study abroad course at #DTCCVietnam16.
